Back home in Indiana, like any great experience, it\’s hard to believe we were actually there. The 12 days simply flew by illustrating that, as Dave said, time really does fly when you\’re having fun.
Thanks again for reading the blog. I was privileged to be in Brazil and so, as a blogging virgin, I was flattered by the interest and the comments.
Mostly thanks to my wonderful wife Elaine for supporting my goofing off to see the World Cup. Only now she has a line of brownie points longer than the Amazon which will have to be redeemed.
The original idea for this trip was to helicopter in to the upper Amazon and paddle downstream by canoe to see games in Manaus; Belem and Fortaleza. At one point a plan was hatched to cycle to Brazil – which it seems is possible if you avoid the drug gangs in Mexico and ignore the Dorian gap in Panama. From such flights of fantasy came the more reasonable trip we just undertook. But wouldn\’t those initial ideas have made for an even more interesting blog?
So here\’s the flight of fantasy for 2018. We fly to Vladivostok on Russia\’s Pacific coast and travel the trans Siberian railway to European Russia to watch the World Cup, stopping at Irkutsk, Lake Bykal and Ulaanbaatar along the way. Who\’s in?
