Good morning Qa-tar

I like watching a city wake up. You get a better feel for a place at this time of day. I’m sitting in a bustling little cafe near our apartment drinking sweet Arabic coffee and eating samosa. This would be an “immigrant” cafe – Sri Lankan’s. They’re amused I think by the one westerner that stumbled in. But sadly not enough English amongst them to have a proper conversation. Two very good coffee and two beef samosa (myiah – to be honest, not so good) , 10 Riyal; about $3. Reasonable!

First foray into the supermarket on the way back to the apartment. Definition of a civilized country. Not only Digestives; but CHOCOLATE digestives. The USA rarely has CHOCOLATE digestives!

And the fans are gathering. Iranians, English, Dutch, Americans, Welsh. Senegalese. The guy from Senegal was particularly confused – me in my Scotland jersey telling him I’m supporting Senegal. Say what?!?!? Fan zone doesn’t open for another 1/2 hr and the first game isn’t for 5 hours but the buzz is building!
